He is versatile in his skating style, but the music he uses invariably has a personal meaning to him. He blushes readily, adding to his sense of humility and charm. Family: wife, Rebecca Woodward Lansing; father, Michael (owner of a small building-supply company); mother, Barbara (homemaker, formerly dental hygienist); younger sister Evelyn (journalist for the Wolf Creek Ledger); a whole horde of other relatives including cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents and a great-grandmother. Personality: Eric is cheerful, somewhat shy among strangers, but friendly and playful in the presence of friends. He has very strong feelings, and can be moody on occasion when something is weighing on his heart, but is overall a very happy and contented man. He is hardworking, sincere, and always ready to do whatever he can to help others. He also loves his fans, and gives them as much personal attention as possible. Hobbies/interests: Eric has been an avid billiards player since childhood, when his father taught him to play the game, and hopes one day to organize an amateur/celebrity tournament for charity. In summer he also enjoys swimming, an interest gained from his mother. Generally he only has time for reading, watching television and movies, and being with friends. Personal history: When Eric was seven, his sister decided that she wanted to try skating. Eric was taken along rather unwillingly to the rink--but it was he, not Evelyn, who immediately fell in love with the sport. Within three years, his first coach recommended him to Malcolm Redgrave, a British and world champion who had just taken up coaching. They developed a close student-teacher friendship, and under Malcolm's guidance, Eric became one of the world's top skaters. Among his victories are the 2002 Winter Olympics, the 2001 and 2003 World Championships, and the 2001 and 2002 U.S. Nationals. For two years Eric had a relationship with fellow Olympic champion Kay Malloy of Great Britain, but this ended at the start of 2003. Soon after, Eric met and fell in love with Rebecca Woodward, a show skater from his own hometown. They were married in Ambrose on September 21, 2003. On Christmas of 2003, Rebecca announced that she was pregnant. Anything else: Although Eric is right-handed, he is a clockwise jumper and spinner. When Eric spoke of wanting a dog, his sister gave him a brown tabby kitten as a joke. He named the cat B. B. Browning, after two of his favorite skaters--Brian Boitano and Kurt Browning. The Lansings later adopted a male Belgian Malinois dog named Ranger, who was given to them by Coach Alex Chevalier. Though not mechanically inclined, Eric likes nice cars. He owns a dark blue Chevy TrailBlazer and a black Corvette, as well as a black Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle. Before his marriage, Eric lived in an apartment in the Ambrose suburb of Lincoln Hills, which he later sold to his former training partner Caelan O'Connor. He and Rebecca now have a large lakefront home by the woods on Lake Forest Drive, in the exclusive neighborhood of Grosvenor Heights, a few blocks from Malcolm Redgrave's house. The Lansings' wedding rings once belonged to the Redgraves, and were given to them by Malcolm.
